Every two years, the Best Sommelier of France competition recognises a professional for their knowledge of wine, sharp palate, acute sense of smell, expertise and people skills.

The programme includes questionnaires, tastings and technical workshops.

Following a national selection phase and a semi-final, this competition awards the most accomplished sommelier.

ABOUT THE ORGANISER

The Union De la Sommellerie Française (UDSF) was founded in 1969 in its present form. It currently includes 23 regional non-profit associations and some 1,200 members. The UDSF is a founding member of the Association de la Sommellerie Internationale and is currently chaired by Philippe Faure-Brac. The aim of the association is to promote and advance the sommelier profession, expertise and people skills.  Today, the UDSF organises various national competitions and is responsible for communicating about the profession and representing it institutionally.

The chairman of the Union Des Sommeliers de France (UDSF), Philippe Faure-Brac, chairs all UDSF competitions, including the Best Sommelier of France.

The competition’s technical director, Jean-Pascal Paubert, works in close collaboration with the technical committee, which includes Cyril Bleecker, sommelier instructor; Gaetan Bouvier, Best Sommelier of France 2016 and Master Of Port 2019; Arnaud Chambost, Meilleur Ouvrier de France in the sommelier category 2000 and sommelier instructor; Romain Iltis, Best Sommelier of France 2012 and Meilleur Ouvrier de France in the sommelier category 2015 and Manuel Peyrondet, Best Sommelier of France 2008 and Meilleur Ouvrier de France in the sommelier category 2011
